A small Piper J-3 Cub has completed a monthlong journey through the United Kingdom. Known as Petit Nuage Bleu, or Little Blue Cloud, the aircraft represented the Commemorative Air Force at air shows and aviation events across England. The tour combined demanding flying, careful logistics and an international gathering of enthusiasts determined to keep aviation history moving.

From late June through late July, the CAF French Wing operated the Cub from Imperial War Museum Duxford, which served as its base and logistical hub. The planned itinerary included appearances at Old Warden, Duxford, RAF Marham and Old Buckenham, while the cancellation of the 2026 Royal International Air Tattoo altered the original schedule.

For Chief Pilot and Finance Officer Jean-Yves Cercy, the Channel crossing was among the tour's defining moments. After stops at Amiens and Calais, he flew the J-3 toward England at 2,100 feet and approximately 70 mph, monitoring engine temperatures as reduced visibility challenged the crossing. The White Cliffs of Dover soon appeared, followed by a stop at Headcorn before the final flight to Duxford.

Once established in Britain, Petit Nuage Bleu joined displays alongside aircraft ranging from WWII-era warbirds to modern F-35B Lightning IIs. At each stop, the Cub also became a meeting point for British, French and American CAF members.

After thousands of spectators and weeks of flying, the J-3 returned safely to France. More than an air show tour, Petit Nuage Bleu demonstrated how even aviation's smallest aircraft can carry a remarkably large mission.
